What is the proper etiquette when attending AM?

 Animation Mentor Class Q&A Etiquette:
  • Your Q&A is a place for mutual respect. You’re here to learn and your mentor is here to help you and prepare you for the industry. Please refrain from talking over your mentor or the other students in your class during the Q&A.
  • Attend every Q&A. If you do have to miss one, please let your mentor know ahead of time. It’s also recommended to then contact a classmate to get caught up with the material that was covered. It is your responsibility keep up with your class and assignments.
  • Please be on time and stay for the whole class. This is important so that you do not miss any important information.
  • Be attentive in class. We recommend turning off or silencing all other electronic devices to give you full attention to the class and your classmates.
  • The Q&A is designed to help you. Get involved, ask questions. Remember: you will get as much out of your education as you put into it.

Animation Mentor Private Messaging Etiquette:
  • Be courteous and respectful in manner, tone, and grammar. You are building your career as a professional. Now is the time to start practicing this communication skill.
  • Your mentor is there to help you learn. If you need to ask your mentor to clarify something they have instructed you on, please do so. There is no need to fear reaching out to them.  Remember - your mentor was a student once too!
  • Please do not expect immediate responses to your messages. Though there are times when you may get a quick response, understand that it may take up to 1 business day (which does not include Saturday or Sunday) before you receive a reply.
  • Do not spam your mentor with Private Messages. While your mentor is always happy to help you, remember that they are human beings who work full time at studios and have families, as well as other students. Be respectful of their time and only contact them via Private Message if it is absolutely necessary. For most questions, save them until your class Q&A and ask them there.

Q&A Guidelines

All Animation Mentor live Q&As take place using Zoom. Please follow these guidelines to setup and use Zoom:
Zoom Setup
  • Joining a Meeting
  • Joining & Configuring Audio & Video
  • Sharing Your Screen

Q&A Behavior
  • Be Punctual: join your Q&A at least a few minutes prior to the start time so your class can begin on time.
  • Be Prepared: collect any questions you may have ahead of time so that you may quickly ask them when your mentor opens up the floor.
Be Respectful: when not actively speaking, be sure to turn off your microphone to help avoid background noise and disrupting your mentor.
  • Bring Pen & Paper: Q&As are live and are not recorded, so taking notes is an important aspect of the class.
  • NO RECORDING: recording Q&As is strictly against school policy. This is due to legal restrictions and to protect mentors, allowing them to speak freely about their work or personal projects.
